Hooked on isotropic parts: December Part of the Month

Brrrr…it’s really cold outside now in our part of the world. Snow is falling and the holidays are just a few short weeks away.

Since I am always freezing, I often wear a heavy, full-length, down coat to work during the winter. My dilemma is, however, that I have nowhere to put it. If I place it over the back of my desk chair, it gets in the way and becomes caught under the chair casters. If I hang it on my door handle, it falls onto the floor. 

 

Fortunately, I work for Rize. My colleague, Nikki, generously offered to customize and 3D print a coat hook for me on a Rize™ One industrial-grade 3D printer for the office or lab. 

 

He adjusted the coat hook design a bit to meet my unique apparel needs and then 3D printed it with our proprietary compound of Rizium™ One thermoplastic. Rizium One produces isotropic parts (uniform strength in the x, y and z axes) stronger than polycarbonate and twice as strong as ABSPlus.

With our unique zero-post-processing capability, I released the supports from my customized, end-use coat hook part in 11 seconds at my desk, and the coat hook was immediately available to mount on the wall.

Now that my strong and watertight 3D printed coat hook is mounted on my wall, I’m hanging everything from it: my coat, scarf and my incredibly heavy bag.
